If you’re a Callaway fan who loves how its clubs sound powerful, even when you don’t hit the perfect shot, you won’t be disappointed with the X Hybrid. Shots ring off the face just like Callaway fairway woods of old. It’s a solid rescue that will do a brilliant job in the hands of the club player.

Our only niggle was the fact it felt a little under designed: where others pull out all the stops, this seems pretty plain. Put this aside and it is easy to hit and forgiving.

Callaway Golf has been a leader in the game improvement segment for years, so it’s no surprise that they’ve been a big player in the booming hybrid market. The company’s Heavenwood stormed the golfing world a few years ago and became an extremely popular option with many of our customers. The X Hybrid is Callaway’s newest stainless steel hybrid and the company hopes it can pick up where the Heavenwood left off.

The Callaway X Hybrid is an advanced stainless steel design that takes technology and a design element utilized in the X Series drivers and fairway woods and incorporates them in a new performance hybrid. Among the technology and design advances utilized in the Callaway X Hybrid is a modified X-Sole(TM) design for the enhanced versatility required of a hybrid club and improved turf interaction from virtually any lie. The X-Sole design also lowers the leading edge, making it easier to get the ball airborne quickly. Also essential to the performance of the Callaway X Hybrids is increased perimeter weighting and an optimized centre of gravity, which combine to boost the moment of inertia for greater stability and better trajectory control.
Essential and patented core technologies that have been hallmarks of Callaway Golf clubs for years are built into the Callaway X Hybrids, including Variable Face Thickness (VFT) Technology, which maximizes perimeter weighting for more forgiveness and increases ball speed off the face for greater distance; S2H2 (short straight, hollow hosel), which helps to further increase discretionary weight by removing weight from the hosel; and Tru-Bore bore-through technology, which extends the shaft through the head to the bottom of the sole for improved feel and clubhead control.

The Callaway X Hybrid utility club is very easy to hit and generates a lovely high flight. However if you want to hit it high, low, left or rigth then that is possible too. The head sits very nicely at address thanks to the X sole and makes a nice solid sound on impact. We prefer this to the FT-Hybrid as we feel it looks a little better and sounds crisper too.

# The X design sole of the Stainless Steel head provides superb versatility by cutting through any thick rough, while sliding smoothly over tight fairways. This modified sole design also lowers the leading edge to help get the ball airborne quickly.
# More weight has been moved to the perimeter of the club head. This increases the Moment Of Inertia (MOI) for less twisting on off centre strikes, resulting in straighter shots.
# VFT (Variable Face Thickness) Technology maximises ball speed off the face for greater distance.
# The short and straight hosel provided by the S2H2 design removes weight from the hosel and allows it to be repositioned around the perimeter for extra forgiveness. A Tru-Bore shaft provides improved feel and club head control.
# Fitted with a top quality Callaway Golf X Hybrid steel shaft as standard. This intelligent 'uniflex' shaft is suitable for golfers of all standards.
