Taylor Made has jumped onto the geometry driven drivers with the r7 CGB Max driver. You don't become the number one driver company in golf without making adjustments and putting new products out to the public. The CGB Max driver is a blend of technologies that have been introduced in several of the drivers Taylor Made has released over the last four years.

The TaylorMade R7 CGB MAX is the newest driver to incorporate TaylorMade’s Movable Weight Technology™ (MWT). MWT provides you with 3 weights that promotes up to 35 yards trajectory change from side to side. This will allow a golfer to correct either a slight fade or an extreme draw off of the tee and provide better accuracy and distance. The picture below shows how adjusting the weights will change your shots.

The first thing that needs to be mentioned is the shape of the club head, it is in fact triangular, which helps to move the center of gravity as far from the club face as possible to raise the moment of inertia for ultimate forgiveness. With three movable weights, you can move the center of gravity from an extreme draw bias to a slight fade bias based upon the type of course you are playing, or to counteract a natural tendency that your swing produces. With the heaviest weight (16 grams) in the extreme heel, and the lighter weights (1 gram) in the center and toe ports, the club can produce up to a 25 yard draw. With the heavier weight in the center port, the club will have a slight draw bias to it. With the heaviest weight in the toe port, you will be set up for a slight fade.

With this club TaylorMade decided to buck the trend of making drivers with square club heads and went with a 460 cc triangle shaped club head instead. According to TaylorMade’s engineers, they chose to use the triangle shape because it promotes a far-from-the-face center of gravity and a high launch angle helping your drives go further. This club also comes with a very light 45 gram shaft stock.

The CGB Max takes the SuperFast technology introduced in the wildly successful Burner line to the next level. The shaft weighs in at 45 grams, making it the lightest stock shaft on the market, which helps to increase club head speed for added distance. The grip is extremely light as well, again designed to help boost club head speed. The increased club head speed theme is taken further by installing a longer shaft which helps boost club head speed even further. Since many people have a little more difficulty getting center contact with a longer shaft, inverted cone on the back of the face is designed to help boost ball speed on slightly off center hits.

When using this club, shots really do fly off of the face and the MWT technology is great at moving shots based on your skill level. However, you do need to be aware that if the weights are left in the neutral position, your shots will still move slightly from right to left.

The r7 CGB Max driver is very light, the 45 gram shaft may be a bit of a strange feeling for those players who are accustomed to swinging a slightly heavier shaft in their drivers. I have been playing a 75 gram shaft, so the CGB Max took a bit of time to get used to. Once I got used to the lighter weight and loner length, I found that I did in face pick up a few yards in distance. I was not as accurate with this club, but I kept the ball in the fairway. I play a natural draw, so I had to set the weights for a fade to avoid hitting a hook. This club is not designed for the player who likes to shape their tee shots, it is more for the player who takes the ball over trees and cuts the corner on dog legs.

Get maximum speed, distance, forgiveness and accuracy with the technologically advanced TaylorMade r7 CGB MAX driver. Distinctively shaped with a triangular titanium clubhead, it also features TaylorMade's unique Movable Weight Technology, which incorporates a system of clubhead ports and differently weighted cartridges. Configuring the cartridges into the ports in different ways shifts the clubhead's center of gravity, promoting changes to the shot's direction, height and distance--up to 30 yards from slight fade to large draw.

The most surprising thing to me was that the different shape was not as visible at address. With some shading around the back edge of the crown, the triangular shape is blended into the grass, which should make the more traditional player happy. The face sits a tad bit closed, further eliminating the more skilled player from putting this club in their bag.

It has three ports with three screws--one weighted at 16 grams and two weighted each at 1 gram--and you can move them from port to port depending on the need of your hit. For example, place the 16-gram weight on the right side of the club if you want to fade to the right, or place it on the left side for a large draw.

  Forgiveness is exceptional but you know instantly when you strike it solid,the ball explodes off the face. Distance is effortless but I can't resist testing the length now and then.   By far the best driver I've ever hit. Accuracy is unreal and hitting a draw is pure poetry. I find myself placing my drives instead of pounding them. The feel is light yet solid with no vibration and has excellent sound (especially when you crank it up).

  This R7 CGB Max Driver is long and straight. I can hit it off the tee almost as far as I can hit my driver but with more accuracy. It really launches the ball well. It has a very good feel to it and is a real easy club to hit. A must have for mid to high hadicappers looking to improve their game.
