The Callaway Diablo Edge Fairway Wood takes the foundation laid by the Big Bertha Diablo fairway woods and develops them into an even more impressive model with between 10 and 12 yards being added to your shots.

Callaway have improved their excellent Variable Thickness Technology to provide the Diablo Edge fairway wood with a much hotter, more aggressive clubface that consistently delivers much higher ball speeds. As with the Diablo Edge driver the fairway features Callway’s highest ever moment of inertia which has been achieved by redistributing most of the weight to the perimeter of the club.

Committed to pushing the boundaries of technology, Callaway have also provided the Diablo Edge fairway with the deepest centre of gravity they have ever achieved in a fairway wood to help promote both distance and height while the slightly larger clubheads make the Diablo Edge accessible to every level of player.

# With more weight positioned in the extreme perimeter of the clubhead, Diablo Edge Fairway Woods have the highest moment of inertia (MOI) ever in a steel Callaway fairway wood. That means less clubhead twisting at impact and, therefore, greater forgiveness.

Recently I got to do a review for the Callaway Diablo Edge Driver and I gave it a very positive review. It provided plenty of power off the tee and gave the user just what they were looking for in terms of a driver with quite a bit of pop. That was one of the main reasons why I was so excited to try out the Diablo Edge Fairway Wood, and after trying it I definitely felt that it was a worthy compliment to the driver that shares its name. The Callaway Diablo Edge Fairway Woods basically supply the user with the power and performance they need whenever they feel the necessity to use a wood instead of a driver.

The engineers at Callaway designed the Diablo Edge Fairway Woods with power in mind, and that is why the construction of the club promotes the power that the club boasts. The specially designed clubhead is formed in a large, geometric shape to promote a higher moment of inertia and a very deep center of gravity that combine to help launch the ball high into the air. The shape of the club is fairly traditional, with a slightly open face that will help give the user less spin and a lower ball flight.

Other than the impressive performance and specifications of the Callaway Diablo Edge Fairway Woods, this is a set of clubs that are also visually pleasing. A striking red gleam ignites as the club slices through the air during your swing, and it is a professional looking model that lives up to its looks. It is also a remarkably forgiving club, something that is much appreciated from woods. In terms of overall size, the Diablo Edge is smaller than most other 3-woods in its class, but what it lacks in size it makes up for two-fold in performance and appearance.

With the update of Callaway's Diablo product line to the Diablo Edge product line this year a lot has been accomplished. Solid clubs for the better player at great price points as well as great performing clubs for the average player. So far I've reviewed the entire Tour line and the standard model driver. Now it's onto the standard model fairway woods and I have to say, for the first time since testing the Diablo line, I'm disappointed!

Similar to their last Diablo fairway woods, the Diablo Edge are very, very long. They are made with VFT Technology for explosive distance, and as Callaway boasts, "the lowest and deepest CG in a fairway wood that the company has ever made". With a very high MOI and a very large club head, it is the best club for distance and forgiveness off the tee. Err... wait, these are supposed to be hit off the fairway right? Keep reading.

While yes, they are fairway woods, I'm not sure how many of your average golfers can hit them. The large head is very, very deep. No matter how much weight you move around in the club head, or what shaft you put in it, it's going to be difficult for most players to get this club airborne. I prefer the shallow headed Diablo Edge Tour. While it is a little smaller, it's easy as pie to get in the air and probably the best fairway wood I'm going to hit in a while.

The club itself matches the driver in looks. A little boxy shape with a nice alignment aid to help you center the ball at address. The club shaft is not too long and is easy to square up. When you do hit it off the turf and get it in the air, it really is a pleasure to hit. But even with me being golf professional, it went pretty low compared to other game improvement fairway woods I've hit.

Overall this is a solid club, better off the tee than the fairway however with a fair amount of workability. Phil Mickelson uses the original model and crushes it. I think the deeper face helps him from hitting the ball too high due to his fast swing speed so you should take a note there.

  This oversized fairway wood produced plenty of distance, thanks to a towering ball flight. And the high-lofted, draw-bias heads will particularly inspire those who slice off the tee.
  
  The forgiveness on offer helped this produce utility club-like performance. Diablo’s large head is not great from anything other than a perfect lie.
