A very modern and advanced looking club released in 2008, the Callaway X-22 Irons are a new model generally aimed mostly at mid to high handicappers. These clubs might not be too attractive visually in photos, but they are alot more easy on the eye when you see one of these irons first hand.

They are designed and weighted with the idea of giving you more distance, and greater forgiveness. The X-22s are the most recent clubs in the X series, and thus the latest in a long line of clubs regarded by many as a market leader in terms of game improvement and forgiveness.

When you first hold the club in your hands one thing thats noticeable is that the club head is quite a thin top line and sole. This is something that usually features in clubs aimed at more better players, however Callaway feel that this design can work on these clubs, even with the target market.

Precision Notch Weighting Precisely positions more weight to the perimeter of the iron to create a higher moment of inertia (MOI) for greater forgiveness and stability while maintaining the center of gravity position that produces ideal trajectories and feel.

Modified Tru-Bore An advanced version of the original Tru-Bore design, the polycarbonate tip plug at the end of the shaft dampens vibration for enhanced feel and performance.

Tour-Inspired Head Shape
Our engineers took elements designed for Tour players, like a thinner top line and narrower sole in callaway x-22 irons, and incorporated them into highly forgiving irons with a higher MOI so they can be played by a wide range of golfers.


VFT Technology
VFT Technology in x-22 irons maximizes ball speed and perimeter weighting for more distance and forgiveness; S2H2 increases discretionary weight by removing it from the hosel and repositioning it in the perimeter of the clubhead; 360-Degree Undercut Channel maximizes perimeter weighting by moving the CG lower and farther back in the clubhead, enlarging the hitting area and stabilizing the clubhead for more forgiveness.

The goal of our X-Series Irons has always been lofty: Set the performance standard for the industry. We’ve done it again with the callaway X-22 Irons, the best X-Series Irons we’ve ever made. The perimeter weighting of the X-22 irons has been maximized for a moment of inertia (MOI) that’s 10 percent higher than their predecessors, meaning you get more forgiveness on off-center strikes. The ideal center of gravity position has been preserved, generating optimal ball-flight trajectories. We’ve also incorporated the Modified Tru-Bore design, dampening vibration for enhanced feel. The tour-inspired head shape has a slightly thinner topline and sole with a large sweet spot for improved aesthetics and forgiveness to boost your confidence.

With a slightly thinner design than most game other improvement clubs. These irons didn't have the usual chunkier appearance, and infact looked quite good at address. And feeling comfortable at address is something that's very important if you are to trust an iron.

In terms of forgiveness the X-22s definitely turn out to be a very trust-worthy set of irons. From what we saw you definitely do not need to hit these clubs perfectly to produce a reasonable shot, even on the more intimidating longer irons.

Whether you like the design or not, these clubs should not be too hard to hit for any reasonable mid handicapper. Simply put, the Callaway X-22 irons are clubs that are suppost to be easy to hit, and that's exactly what we found them to be.

Not only that, but nine times out of ten these irons give you that great feeling you get when you hit an iron sweetly, almost like you haven't even hit a ball at all.

This isn't really a feeling that occurs overly often on the whole with game improvement clubs. But it is the case with the X-22s.

Another good thing is that these irons don't hit the ball too high or too low. Various game improvement clubs in recent times have sometimes often produced a very high ball flight, but that generally isn't the case with these X-22s.

The trajectory in general with the mid and lower irons was always quite powerful and very penetrating. Making it alot less likely that shots will be grabbed and taken away by high winds, when playing in such conditions.

In terms of distance though, despite the poweful ball flight, the Callaway X-22 irons don't really give you any more yardage than most others on the market. However accuracy and forgiveness are always more important qualities to look for in an iron.

So if you're a high or a mid handicapper looking at taking your game up a level, and playing a tidier golf game. Then the X-22s are certainly irons that can give impressive and consistent performance.

If you drive the ball relatively well, and often find yourself in the fairway. Then you should end up hitting more greens in regulation with these irons, which inevitably results in lower scores, and shots coming off your handicap.

As with most golf clubs in the current climate, the price has come down of late. However as with alot of Callaway golf clubs, these irons are still not cheap.

  I got my set of Callaway X-22 Irons Set 3-9PS With Graphite Shaft Left-Handed last week, and I absolutely love them. I was fitted.The thing that really stood out for me, as a complete beginner, was the consistency I was able to achieve with them despite my beginner status.

  The long irons in X-22 Irons are fairly long, but I'd still prefer a hybrid or two in the low end. I'll grant you that these are easy to hit for long irons, and if you're already a long hitter you won't miss the hybrids as much as I do.

  I am interested in your x-22 iron set. I am curious how many irons the set has. Is it 3-9 and a pitching and sandwedge? Also the description says the steel shafts are the uniflex but when go to choose the shaft it offers me steel with stiif or regular shaft. Are these the real deal? I see the same irons for sale at all other stores for $599.
